  We do not get many opportunities for a true fireside chat here in Florida, but that does not mean we cannot have the conversation. The Lean Jax Member Fireside Chat is a simple idea: bring representatives from our member organizations together, give people a chance to talk openly about what is happening in their organizations, and create more opportunities for members to learn from one another. No slides. No formal presentation. Just a conversation.

  Bring a Win. Bring a Challenge. Bring an Idea. Bring a Question. The most useful thing you can bring is something that is not solved yet. A process that will not hold. A standard nobody follows. A rollout that stalled. You do not need an A3 or a polished story — just the situation and where it is hung up. Between the people on this call, someone has been there. I will go first with one of my own.

  Why Are We Doing This?

  Lean Jax is a consortium. That means the value should not come only from programs or events we put on. A big part of the value should come from members helping members. We want to hear what is working in your organization, what you are proud of, what you are trying to improve, and where you may be getting stuck.

Tell us what you would like to learn, what you would like to see at another member organization, and what kinds of training would help you and your team.

  About This Session

  The Jacksonville Lean Consortium is pleased to continue our Lean Leadership Webinar Series with Lean Six Sigma Reimagined: Applications Beyond Manufacturing, featuring Dr. Tres Bishop of Florida Atlantic University!

  Lean Six Sigma is often associated with manufacturing.

  
  

  But what happens when we take those same improvement principles into places where organizations have not traditionally used them?

  That question has defined much of Tres’s work.

  For nearly 20 years, he has worked across quality, continuous improvement, operations, consulting, and higher education. This session will examine what carries across different environments, what needs to adapt, and what practitioners can learn when they apply familiar methods to new types of work and problems.

  The conversation is designed for a broad audience, from experienced Lean, Six Sigma, and improvement practitioners to people working in operations, quality, engineering, project management, education, consulting, and research, as well as students and anyone interested in improving how work gets done.

  Whether you work in manufacturing, healthcare, construction, higher education, hospitality, government, professional services, or another setting, the session offers a chance to look at improvement through a wider lens.

  Examples We’ll Explore

  • How a construction company successfully deployed DMAIC to its' business development process.
  • How Florida Atlantic University uses Lean Six Sigma to strengthen and continuously improve its own Lean Six Sigma education program.
  • Lessons from applying continuous improvement thinking across healthcare, hospitality, government, education, and service organizations.
  • Using experiential learning and hands-on application to help people understand, retain, and apply what they learn.
  •  How organizations are integrating AI and virtual simulations into Kaizen events and other improvement efforts, creating new ways for people to learn, test ideas, and apply what they discover.
    

  
  

  What still works when the setting changes? What needs to adapt? And what can we learn when we apply familiar improvement principles to unfamiliar problems?

  This interactive 75-minute session will combine presentation, discussion, and live Q&A.

  Tres will use examples from his work and research as a starting point to examine what worked, explore what changed when the context changed, and connect the lessons to challenges people are facing in their own organizations.

  Bring your questions, your experiences, and even the places where you are not sure these improvement methods fit.

  About Dr. Tres Bishop

  Dr. Tres Bishop helps organizations improve performance, streamline operations, and build systems that scale. With nearly 20 years of experience in quality and continuous improvement, Dr. Bishop works with leaders to strengthen operations, reduce inefficiencies, improve customer outcomes, and create more effective workflows using proven process improvement and project management methods.

  His experience spans healthcare, hospitality, higher education, government, and private industry. Dr. Bishop holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree and professional certifications including Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Project Management Professional, and Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence.

  Dr. Bishop is an Operations Management faculty member at Florida Atlantic University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in operations management, project management, healthcare operations, change management, data analytics, and quality management. He is also Managing Director and Co-Founder of Tres Bishop Consulting, which provides customized training, coaching, and advisory support in operational excellence and performance improvement.

  His applied research and publications focus on Lean Six Sigma, quality management, and project management, with an emphasis on practical, evidence-based approaches that produce measurable and sustainable results.

  Dr. Bishop is especially interested in collaborating with leaders and organizations committed to improving performance and building stronger operations.
